Since the third grade for some reason
I lived with my grandmother
My house was right beside hers but
I lived with my grandmother

Every day I helped her
and we played gobang as well.
But cleaning the bathroom was the only thing I was not good at;
so my grandmother said this to me:

In the bathroom there is a beautiful goddess.
So if you clean it beautifully every day,
you’ll become a beautiful person like the goddess

From that day I
started to clean the bathroom so it sparkled.

I certainly wanted to become a beautiful person.
So I cleaned it every day.

When we went out shopping together,
we ate Kamo Nanban.
I also cried and blamed my grandmother
when she missed recording my comedies on TV.

In the bathroom there is a beautiful goddess.
So if you clean it beautifully every day,
you’ll become a beautiful person like the goddess.

When I became a bit of an adult I
started to have run-ins with my grandmother.
Things were not going well with my family.
I lost my place to go.

On my days off I would play with my boyfriend
without returning home.

Gobang and kamo nanban and
the other things we had between us vanished.

Why is it I wonder that people hurt each other.
We lose what is important to us.
My grandmother was always there for me,
but I left her alone and left my home.

Two years after coming to Tokyo
my grandmother entered the hospital.
She lost weight and became so thin.
I went to go see her.

“Grandmother, I’m home!” I said on purpose,
like in the old days.

After just talking for a short time she said
“Go home already” and I was sent out of the room.

The morning of the next day
my grandmother peacefully fell asleep forever.

It was as if she had been waiting for me,
waiting for me to come.

She diligently raised me but...
She never asked for anything in return but...
I wasn’t a good granddaughter but...
She waited for this kind of person.

In the bathroom there is a beautiful goddess.
I wonder if these words that my grandmother gave me
made me into the beautiful person I am today.

In the bathroom there is a beautiful goddess.
So if you clean it beautifully every day,
you’ll become a beautiful person like the goddess.

I dreamed of being a good-natured bride.
Today as well I diligently clean the bathroom so it sparkles.
